The Right White

For those of you who are done with Gray as a neutral, white is, well…. the new gray.

Maybe you feel white is too easy but believe me, once you come to considering this colour as a decorating option, you will realise it isn’t straight forward. Like all other colours, white can go in many directions. What undertone are you looking for? A cool white that has a nodding friendship with blue or green? Or are you looking for something with a warm undertone to combat gray, rainy days? Here are three whites from Benjamin Moore, which I use repeatedly.

Winds-Breath-OC-24

Winds Breath, OC-24, Benjamin Moore. A soft white that works well with beiges.

Cloud white

Cloud White, CC-40, on the wainscoting and trim work. The “decorators darling” of whites, in previous decades. Very creamy, this is a very good white for rooms that want a little extra warmth.

If you are looking for a cooler white, I would suggest OC-51, Intense White or CC-30 Oxford White. (No images at this time.)

Blue Christmas

No one is fonder of a cream, silver and gold-decorated Christmas living room, than I, but sometimes it can be good to change the traditional up a bit and challenge the eye. I have worked with other non-traditional colour palates previous years, in decorating my own space for the holidays. I change things up a little from year to year for my own sake. Some years my eye craves something out of my usual comfort zone, as winter and the darker days settle in.

Not at all intentional, but I seem to have a selection of blue Christmas vignettes  to show this year.
